As an ESC volunteer in education and youth, you work with children, teenagers or young adults โ in schools, youth centres, youth organisations or informal learning environments. You become a role model, a mentor, sometimes a big sister or brother.

Overview
Education & youth
This is one of the broadest and most popular areas within the ESC. Projects range from regular schools (where you usually work as a language assistant or help in classrooms) to youth centres, youth organisations and groups working with informal learning โ learning that happens outside school, through activities, games, workshops and conversations.
Many European schools host ESC volunteers to give pupils authentic contact with another European language and culture. You are not a teacher โ you are a present young adult introducing English, Swedish or your own culture, often through conversation and play.
The youth sector is just as important. It's about being a stable presence for young people who may not always have that support at home โ leading activities, listening, organising outings, building mentorship over time.
